In 1595 the First People introduced Sir Walter Raleigh to asphalt, to caulk his ships. This magical substance has since been used to pave the world’s roads, manufacture roofing shingles and a host of other products. Today we’ll visit the Pitch Lake and here the native folktales of the area. We’ll also see the twisted streets and homes, a painful creation of this natural wonder. Our knowledgeable guides would also share general information on other sites and areas along the way.
